Graduate Level Textbook Under Preparation
Title of Textbook:
The Principles of Quantum Communication
Author: P. S. Bhatia
About this Textbook: Quantum information science, which is the union of quantum mechanics, information science, and artificial intelligence (AI) is a very new and fast-growing field of research. This discipline is alternately called quantum artificial intelligence (QAI). Quantum information science aims to improve performance and security of information and artificial intelligence (AI) systems such as computers and the internet with the help of single unifying theory, which at the present is quantum mechanics. Quantum communication, which deals with entanglement assisted transfer of quantum information, is an important sub-division of quantum information science. Quantum communication is very important because it not only deals with communication of quantum information within the quantum computers, but also among nodes of quantum internet. Therefore, quantum communication is essential for building next generation of quantum computers, quantum internet, and artificial intelligence machines. Within the field of quantum communication, currently there is a very intense research activity. However, the subject of quantum communication is currently an unorthodox course and there is no suitable book which can be used as a graduate level textbook. The aim of this monograph is to present an advanced level book about the subject of quantum communication, which can be adopted as a graduate level textbook in US universities. Different chapters of this book cover all important topics within the field of quantum communication. Such topic includes classical states, quantum states in photons, atoms, molecules, and solid-state materials, basic theory of quantum entanglement, two and multiqubit entanglement, single photon laser and detector, spontaneous parametric down-conversion in nonlinear crystals, experimental generation and detection of quantum entangled states, quantum key distribution (QKD), quantum teleportation, entanglement swapping, quantum dense coding, remote state preparation, quantum error correction, quantum memory, quantum frequency conversion, quantum repeaters, distribution of entanglement in a large scale quantum network, quantum interconnects, and global scale quantum internet. I would like to offer a two-semester course, which will be offered repeatedly for a few years. During this period the content of each chapter and homework problems will be tested in the classroom. Eventually, the content of this course will evolve into a standard graduate level textbook. This book is suitable for a wide range of graduate students and researchers both in the areas of pure physics and applied & engineering physics.
